With over 500,000 new cases reported each year, and with the incidence
rising more than any other form of cancer, skin cancer is the most
common form of cancer in the United States. Dr. Choucair provides
removal of skin cancer as well as restoration of the area where the
cancer was removed.
Ultra violet light or UV rays from the sun as well as from sunlamps and
tanning booths is the primary cause of cancer. It doesn't matter what
your race is, skin type, age, what part of the world you live in, you
can still get skin cancer. You are at a greater risk if you are fair
and freckle easily, have light eyes and hair, have a large number of
moles or they may be unusual sizes and shapes, you have a family
history of sunburns that blistered, you live close to the equator or at
higher altitude or live in an areas where there is sunshine year round.
The most common form of skin cancer is basal cell carcinoma with the
second most common being squamous cell carcinoma and the least common
however most dangerous is malignant melanoma. Basal and squamous cell
cancers can vary in appearance and may begin as white or pink small
nodules or bumps. They can be waxy, shiny or pitted on the surface or
they may appear as a red rough, dry or scaly red spot, a red lump that
may be crusty, a group of crusted nodules, a sore that doesn't heal
after two to four weeks or doesn't heal or a patch that looks like a
scar.
You should consult with your family physician if you have an area of
skin you are concerned about. If it is recommended that you investigate
the condition further, Dr. Choucair would be able to assist in the
diagnosis, removal of the affected skin tissue as well as restore the
skin to as close to it's original integrity as possible.
Skin cancers are removed much like that of where a bruise on an apple
can be removed. The cells are scraped away or "scooped" out until only
healthy skin tissue is remaining. Unfortunately, when skin cancers are
removed a "hole" or depression is left where the defective skin tissue
was removed. As a Board Certified Cosmetic and Plastic Surgeon, Dr.
Choucair has extensive knowledge, training and experience in the
reparation of such skin conditions.
Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery is helpful in restoring the skin back to a
state that appears normal. If you would like to have a private
evaluation with Dr. Choucair regarding your skin condition,
